Saint Gregory’s Parents’ Association

The Parents’ Association is instrumental in making the Saint Gregory’s experience very special for our children. Our purpose is to enhance the strong partnership among the students, parents, and the School. Through an array of fundraising activities, membership dues, and volunteer efforts, we support our faculty, improve the School’s resources, and strengthen the Saint Gregory’s community – from our grandparents to our alumni. The Parents’ Association also helps meet the needs of the Athletic Department at Saint Gregory’s School.  The Association helps staff the game admissions desk, run the score board and time clock, and raise funds for referee expenses.  The Association has enhanced the physical education program by supporting cross-country skiing, and lacrosse.

We welcome and encourage all parents to be involved in the Association.

Meetings – The Parents’ Association meets once a month in the Kopp Wing Chapel.  Periodically, special speakers are invited to help inform and educate the membership on topics pertinent to our children and our families.

Some of the many events the Parents’ Association offers are described below:

New Parents Welcome – This event, held the day before the first day of school, provides an opportunity for new students and their parents to become more acquainted with the School, teachers, current families and each other.

Fall Spruce-up – In the fall, parents gather to weed and plant. We usually plant mums in early September and some bulbs for spring blooming.

Fall Book Fair – For two weeks in September, the Kopp Wing is transformed into a book haven for students and parents to enjoy. The fair is open during the day and in the evenings during parent orientations.

Parent Orientations – The school hosts parent orientations – Lower School, Fifth Grade, Upper School. The evening begins with a brief presentation by the Head of School; parents then go to their child’s classroom to meet the teachers and learn about the class curriculum and procedures. The Parents’ Association provides refreshments and snacks.

Student Pictures – Each year parents are given the opportunity to order student pictures; class pictures are available as well. Parents help coordinate picture day in October and retakes in December.

Moveable Feast – This is a major fundraiser for the Association and takes place every other year. Parents, faculty and staff are invited to attend. The evening begins with cocktails all together and then everyone splits off to attend dinner at the home of a host family from their class. It is a wonderful evening, full of fun and friendship, and also a great venue for parents to get acquainted.

Mother and Child Dinner – This annual event is a great evening for kindergarten through eighth grade mothers and their children to enjoy dinner, dancing, games, and prizes – with special honor for the eighth grade mothers and their sons.

Faculty and Staff Luncheons – In December and May, the Parents’ Association organizes special luncheons to show our appreciation to Saint Gregory’s talented and dedicated faculty and staff.

First Eucharist – The Association hosts a reception to celebrate the second-graders with a reception following the Sacrament of First Eucharist.

Essay Contest – Every spring, the Parents’ Association sponsors an essay contest. Students from Kindergarten up may participate.

Literary Fun Night – A night to celebrate literature! After reading a book and participating in a group discussion, students and parents have dinner and enjoy activities together.

Grandparents and Special Persons Day – Every spring, grandparents and special friends are invited to Saint Gregory’s to see the school and enjoy a performance by the students. Following a light breakfast buffet hosted by the Parents’ Association, a musical program is performed by all grades and guests view a beautiful exhibit of student artwork. After that, grandparents and special persons visit the classrooms and everyone is dismissed by noon.

Annual Dinner Meeting – This meeting is a celebration of all of the activities and events of the past year. It is an evening for parents to reflect on the year, to congratulate the people who took on leadership roles, and to welcome a new slate of officers.

Barnes & Noble Bookfair – Saint Gregory’s School conducts a Bookfair at Barnes & Noble in mid-December and Mid-May.  A percentage of all sales in the store go toward Saint Gregory’s.  Cafe and cheesecake orders qualify for this fundraiser as well.

Father-Son Sports Trip – The Parents’ Association schedules a bus trip to a special sporting event each year.  Fathers and sons gather for a meal and then attend the game.

Sports Awards Banquet – This event is held in late May. Boys in 5th through 8th grade who participated in school sports such as basketball, soccer, and track and field are honored. Parents and family members are invited to attend. The event takes place in the school gymnasium. Dress: casual — boys usually wear a collared shirt and khakis
