Saint Gregory's Fifth Graders Honored For Their Service February 5, 2009
Albany, N.Y. - Fifth Graders, Zack Hollander and Tom Sneeringer, decided last fall to do a Knight's project that would help others in need. So, they went door to door asking for donations of clothes, toys, and books to be made to St. Catherine's Center for Children. They wrote a letter that they took to people's homes, and then they returned a week later to pick up the items. "We also collected coats, hats and mittens," said Tom.
On Friday, January 30, the boys were invited to a special appreciation luncheon for volunteers to St. Catherine's where they both received certificates of appreciation and listened to remarks given by Mr. David Dawson, Director of Residential Services. Tom said, "When Mr. Dawson was talking about the homes that we helped, it was really interesting. We want to do another project for them."
"We are thinking that we would like to invite Mr. Dawson to Saint Gregory's to talk to the upper school about helping out. It was very sad to hear about the little kids who may not get things they need," said Zack. Tom added, "Mr. Dawson made us want to help even more."
The Director of Development at St. Catherine's, Ms. Joanne Gambino-Morehouse wrote, "...how much I appreciate your boys, Zack and Tom, whose poise and self-confidence were so impressive and a tribute to two such loving and involved Moms. It brought back my own beautiful personal memories of my involvement with my children and their schools."
Congratulations to Tom and Zack for extending your caring efforts to others in need and for representing Saint Gregory's with distinction.
