Falconry at Saint Gregory's School October 21, 2010
On Thursday, October 21, Beth Bidwell from the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York visited the fifth and sixth grade classes at Saint Gregory’s School for Boys. Ms. Bidwell brought falcons, hawks, and an owl with her. She talked to the boys about the birds and about the amazing sport of falconry. Fifth and sixth grade students have been reading The Sword and the Stone in English class and studying the Middle Ages in History class. The sport of falconry was taught to all boys in the Middle Ages and is featured prominently in The Sword and the Stone. Ms. Bidwell and her birds really made the “book” lessons come to life. Our thanks go out to the Saint Gregory’s School parent who made this visit possible.
