Mrs. Joan Shepard

Mrs. Joan Shepard has been teaching Art since 1980 and has taught all levels from Early Childhood to Advanced Placement classes in high school. She is the editor of the Yearbook and she consistently looks for ways to connect Art to other disciplines through interdisciplinary projects. She is an artist who enjoys painting, drawing, pottery, and photography. She also loves the outdoors and skiing, hiking, biking, and golf.

"I love teaching art at Saint Gregory's. There is always positive activity in the art studio, as the children feel comfortable creating and learning. The creative process that goes into making art develops over the years from Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade, just as it develops in academics and in athletics. This artistic process requires thinking through ideas, challenging the imagination and enjoying the work. It is so fulfilling to teach the students new skills, to help them understand the concepts of design, to allow them to make mistakes and to ultimately express themselves through a piece of art. The students take pride in seeing what they have accomplished."
