Our Philosophy
Saint Gregory’s is committed to preparing our boys for the demands of a secondary education first and foremost. But beyond that, we seek to produce whole individuals who are morally, intellectually and emotionally fit to flourish in the world.
We know boys and girls learn differently. Although we offer Pre-School and Kindergarten classes for boys and girls, we believe that the crucial educational journey for boys begins in the 1st grade. From the 1st through the 8th grade, our boys thrive in this rigorous single-sex educational environment that provides, challenge, camaraderie and active learning. Our athletic programs are carefully designed to give our boys not just the exercise they crave, but lessons in focused effort, selflessness, grace in victory or in defeat, and enjoyment of the rewards that come from striving for shared success with one’s peers. A rigorous education also means encouraging self-expression through art, music, theatre and literature. We believe it is this balance between achievement and expression where independent thinking is born. Saint Gregory’s is a school of welcome exploration of life’s possibilities but also one with a strict Honor Code. We give our boys broad exposure to technology as an educational tool without losing sight of the timeless principle of personal connections. We offer accelerated study on an individual basis and continue to instill in our students a deep sense of shared purpose and abiding fellowship. We are Saint Gregory’s. To Learn. To Achieve. To Grow. Our History Saint Gregory’s is a Catholic, independent school. We have small classes and give individual attention to students as they pursue challenging academic studies. As an independent school, our policies are set by a Board of Trustees made up of parents, alumni and community leaders. Founded in 1962, Saint Gregory’s School is located on 22 acres in Loudonville, a suburb of Albany, New York and serves students from many surrounding communities. The school's fundamental principles are: Academic Excellence, Christian Principles and Leadership Skills. Small class sizes, individual attention and advanced courses are offered. Saint Gregory’s accepts boys and girls aged 3 to 6 in its Nursery through Kindergarten program, and all boys in grades 1 through 8. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child’s education through extended at-home activities, support of good work habits and study skills, and frequent contact with teachers. The dedicated faculty of Saint Gregory’s School consists of highly-trained educators who stay informed of current trends in their ever-changing fields. Our faculty continually updates and integrates materials, methods and themes to fit the needs of their students. |
